Yesterday was a good day.
Yesterday was the launch of #CAPMAS’s new website!
To all researchers, policymakers, & development practitioners in #Egypt & the #MENA region, CAPMAS has long been the leading regional institution on official statistics. There was never a problem in data availability per se, but there was a constant challenge of accessibility. It was quite difficult to find a particular dataset if one did not know beforehand in which statistical bulletin (out of hundreds) it is published. And when you do, there’s a second layer of difficulty in getting it in an open source format that is usable for analysis & research. The vast majority of the data was only published in non-searchable PDFs.
This is now no more!
Top features of the new website:
1️⃣ The option to download all statistical bulletins in open Excel & CSV files👩🏻💻
2️⃣ The ability to browse the data by topic, period of study, free search keywords🔎
3️⃣ A fully interactive data visualization tool for all CAPMAS timeseries📊
4️⃣The availability of everything in both Arabic & English 🌍
This marks only the first fruit of a comprehensive digital transformation project for CAPMAS that spanned over 4 years & included everything from meticulously mapping all of the agency’s statistics generation processes to designing the new website.
Congratulations to my colleagues at Synerjies International & Strategic Studies, past & present, who contributed to this gargantuan project: Yassmine Lotfi, Nada Nabih, Tia Abdelmalek, Marc Nabil, Hassan Tamer, Malak Ahmed, Sherif Gamal, Ahmed Refaay, Eman El-Hadary (the heart & soul of the project), and of course Khaled El-Sayed (the original driving force of the whole idea to begin with). 🎊🎉 (I’m definitely missing a few people, forgive me)
To the great team at Digital Hub who were the web development & database backbone of this project — you made us all proud! 🌷🙏🏼
And last but definitely not least, & even though they are not on LinkedIn, to the amazing men & women of CAPMAS who worked tirelessly with us with all the heart & support we could ever wish for: Eng. Amany Sobhy, Eng. Rana Salah, Mj. Gen. Yasser Fathy, & the entire IT division — Thank you & congratulations. You give us hope for the future. 🌸♥️
It has been an absolute honor working on this project. It is the pride & joy of #Synerjies & my personal professional path to have contributed to something that would have an everlasting multiplier effect in research & development for Egypt & the region. This is our vision!
